Greater burdock (Galium tricornutum) is a harmful weed in wheat fields worldwide. This plant reproduces through seeds, which exhibit dormancy. The degree of dormancy varies among different ecotypes. Stratification is one method to break seed dormancy. In this study, cold stratification at 4°C for 24, 48, and 72 hours, and cold-warm stratification (3 minutes at 80°C followed by 4°C for 24, 48, and 72 hours) were investigated. All treatments increased germination indices, but alternating temperature treatments, especially 3 minutes at 80°C followed by 4°C, showed the most significant difference in germination percentage, rate, index, and mean germination time compared to the control. This difference was more pronounced in seeds from regions with high rainfall. Higher temperatures and lower altitudes may also positively influence stratification, but due to the proximity of the sampling sites and their similar conditions, definitive conclusions cannot be drawn from this study. Further research and sampling are needed.
