Abstract

Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum subsp. durum), as the world's second most important wheat species, plays a vital role in global food security and the production of high-quality industrial products. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate four promising durum wheat lines compared to the control cultivar, Tabban, under field conditions in Dezful County. The experiment was conducted during the 2023-2024 growing season in two regions of Dezful: Shamsabad and Safiabad. Agronomic traits, disease response, and various quality indices were assessed. The results revealed significant genetic diversity in terms of yield and quality among the lines. Line D-99-10, with an average yield of 4574 kg/ha, had the highest grain yield, outperforming the control by 11.6%. Line D-99-6, with a yield of 4476 kg/ha, ranked second. Regarding quality, line D-400-20 had the highest test weight (84 kg/hl), while line D-99-6 had the lowest percentage of brown spots (2%). Line D-99-10, possessing the highest SDS sedimentation volume (87 ml) and gluten index (89), exhibited superior gluten quality. A key finding of this research was the very strong positive correlation between grain yield and both SDS sedimentation volume (0.92) and gluten index (0.90). Based on these results, line D-99-10 is recommended as a superior genotype for release as a new cultivar, and line D-99-6 is suggested as a high-quality genetic resource.
